President Volodymyr Zelensky appears to have departed from a White House meeting empty-handed after failing to obtain the sought-after Tomahawk cruise missiles from US President Donald Trump.

The Ukrainian president remarked after the civil meeting that he and Trump had talked about advanced missile systems, but decided not to make statements on that matter "because the United States does not want an intensification."

Trump's Stance on Weapons Transfer

Although the US president did not rule out providing Tomahawks to Ukraine, his attitude during the Washington meeting was cautious.

"With hope Ukraine won't require them, ideally we can end the conflict without thinking about Tomahawks," President Trump remarked, adding that the United States needed the missile systems for its own defense.

Trump said that providing the missiles would be "an escalation, but discussions will continue."

The Trump-Zelensky meeting came just 24 hours following President Trump spoke by phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin and agreed to meet him in Hungary in the near future.

After the discussions, Trump used his social media platform to urge Ukraine and Russia to "stop where they are" and conclude the conflict.

Ukrainian Viewpoint and Proposals

The Ukrainian leader suggested that his country could provide drones in return for the Tomahawks, a proposal that prompted positive reactions from Trump.

When questioned if he was leaving the US capital more optimistic that his nation would receive the missiles, he stated, "My approach is realistic."

Zelensky believes that using these missiles to strike at Russian oil and energy facilities would severely weaken Russia's military funding capabilities.

"Justice and freedom will win, and all the violence and aggression will vanish," said one Ukrainian store owner. "We simply wish to exist peacefully, we refuse to surrender, we just want them to leave us alone."
