The boss of Domino's Pizza Group who proposed the United Kingdom might have hit pizza saturation while expanding the chain into poultry items has been replaced after tensions with its governing body. Leadership Change Rennie is departing after only 24 months in leadership, and will be replaced on an temporary basis by the company's operations head, Nicola Frampton, while Domino's looks for a long-term chief. Rennie, who was with Domino's for a substantial period, had sought to pivot Britain's biggest pizza delivery company towards fried chicken, remarking recently there was not “massive growth” left in the British pizza industry. He said chicken was the quickest rising menu item in the globe. Governance Disagreements It is understood that there was disagreement between Rennie and the governance team over his approach and business vision, although Domino's release said he was departing “by mutual agreement”. Recent Brand Launch In September, Domino's launched its poultry offering – which Rennie referred to as a “bold new chapter” for the company – and is trialling it in 210 outlets in the North West region and Northern Ireland. While the firm is still intending to launch it across its extensive network in the coming year as intended, it views fried chicken as an addition to its primary pizza operations. Leadership Statement The Domino's chair, the Domino's chair, stated: “The board believes that there are a number of opportunities to boost expansion and profitability in Domino's core business. We are focused on identifying the ideal CEO to lead the careful implementation of that expansion plan.” Market Difficulties Recently, the pizza delivery giant, which has a substantial customer base in the UK and Ireland, said transactions fell by 1.5% in the third quarter. In August, it cautioned that the takeaway market had “become tougher” as it attributed weaker consumer confidence in the period before the budget and increasing labor expenses for weaker-than-expected sales and a 15% drop in half-year profits. Rival chains are also experiencing difficulties. Pizza Hut announced the closing of dozens of outlets a month ago, after the company behind its British operations fell into administration. Wellness Efforts Adapting to customer preferences towards better nutrition, Domino's has introduced reduced-calorie items, such as its thin-crust range of pizzas below 400 kcal as well as vegan and gluten-free pizzas. A family-sized pepperoni has 2,311 calories. A big margherita has 2,171 kcal, while a personal has 909 kcal. Interim Management Nicola Frampton has been with Domino's since 2021, and previously worked for the gambling company William Hill. It is thought that she does not want to assume the top job long-term. She said: “The company has a number of current development and efficiency programs that we will be focused on implementing at a rapid rate.” She added these involved ongoing development on the company's supply chain and product development, and its customer retention initiative. The pizza chain is also without a long-term chief financial officer until March 16, when Andrea starts from the drinks company a well-known firm. Until then, Snow acts as interim finance chief.
